How it Works/FAQ

“A better way”

The Ostomy Aid is a simple two-piece system designed to help ostomates to empty their ostomy pouches with comfort, ease and confidence.  The Ostomy Aid has no moving parts or exposed metal. A pvc-coated steel bracket clamps securely and easily to the front lip of just about any toilet bowl. Powerful suction cups on the inside of the lip hold the clip securely. The tough steel bracket clasps a large plastic beaker to the front lip of your toilet, holding it firmly in place. Plastic beaker liners, included in every new shipment, make cleanup quick, clean and easy.

The rest is just as simple. There is minimal assembly, no additional plumbing, and no additional hassle. Simply sit on the toilet as you normally would. Drain your pouch into the receptacle, clean and reseal your ostomy pouch as you normally would, dump the contents of the beaker liner into the toilet and flush. All that’s left is to discard the used beaker liner and replace it with a new one. Out of beaker liners? Not a problem. Just use the Ostomy Aid with no liner and thoroughly wash the beaker afterwards with soap and hot water. You can also easily order new liners through our website.

Ostomy Aid is truly “A Better Way.“

Your Ostomy Aid is ready to use quickly right out of the box. It’s easy to install it securely on your toilet. With just a few simple steps, your Ostomy Aid will be ready to use.

Installing the Ostomy Aid

  1. Remove the wire bracket from the box. The bracket has an angled U-shaped opening that faces away from the toilet bowl, a pair of tight V-bends to provide support, and a pair of suction cups to securely fasten the Ostomy Aid to to your toilet bowl.
  2. Raise the toilet seat. The Ostomy Aid cannot be installed with the toilet seat lowered.
  3. Slide the Ostomy Aid down the front lip of your toilet bowl as shown. Make sure the bowl rim is clean so the suction cups can hold the bracket securely in place.
  4. Press firmly on the suction cups so they form a tight seal. This helps ensure the Ostomy Aid will stay in place when the receptacle is full. Close the toilet seat. Please note that while the clamp and suction cups will hold a full beaker firmly in place, we recommend leaving the seat down when the beaker is full to prevent any possibility of an accident.
  5. Place one of the two beakers in the bracket as shown in Figure 1. Your Ostomy Aid is now ready to be used.

Using the Beaker Liners

Your Ostomy Aid may be used without beaker liners, but the included liners are simple to use and make cleanup a snap.

  1. Slip your closed hand into the new liner to open it.
  2. Place your hand into the beaker, and with the other hand, gently stretch the edge of the liner around the rim of the beaker. If you’re having trouble with this, a suggestion we received from a customer is to place a tennis ball or racquetball in the beaker liner and then use both hands to stretch the liner in place. We tested this, and it works great, so we are including it here.
  3. Lift the edge of the beaker liner up a small amount and squeeze any extra air out of the beaker liner. Your Ostomy Aid is now ready to be used with the beaker liner.

Using the Ostomy Aid

  1. Sit on the toilet in the typical fashion with the Ostomy Aid installed on the front of the toilet bowl.
  2. Drain your ostomy pouch into the beaker. Irrigate and lubricate the chute, and close the pouch as normal.
  3. Remove the beaker from the bracket and dump the contents into the toilet close to the waterline to prevent splashing.
  4. Flush the toilet, remove the beaker liner and dispose of the liner in a sanitary fashion. NEVER FLUSH BEAKER LINERS. Beaker liners are not intended to pass through plumbing, and they may cause plumbing blockages.
  5. If you are not using a beaker liner, the beaker must be washed thoroughly after each use for sanitary reasons. Do not throw away the beaker unless it is damaged. Beakers are made of lab-grade plastic and should last for many uses.
